Reflecting on the last four years as a CS undergrad.

I started university near the end of 2022, a year before ChatGPT became the de facto replacement for Google. It was a time where everyone wrote code by hand, sifting through pages of documentation and memorizing implementations in their favourite framework because the industry deemed it as an necessary skill.

But, 2023 was three years ago, and LLMs have evolved to the point where people have started questioning what software engineering is even supposed to be anymore. So, the question is, should you learn how to code? Or has memorizing syntax been holding us back all along?
